WANTS

In this photographic exploration, I encapsulate a poignant intersection of memory and desire, utilizing a Swizzel's love heart, inscribed with 'I WANT YOU,' as a symbolic vessel. The intentional magnification of the candy heart serves not merely as an aesthetic choice but as a strategic, disruptive technique, designed to defamiliarize and subtly disorient the viewer, echoing Viktor Shklovsky's theory of 'defamiliarization' and paralleling the scale manipulations observed in Cindy Sherman and Claes Oldenburg’s works. This enlargement unveils overlooked textures and details, revealing a microcosm within its saccharine confines, while metaphorically mirroring the amplified emotions of childhood crushes and shyness. My work weaves a tapestry of memory and desire, offering a comforting yet disquieting visual narrative that invites viewers to immerse themselves in a realm of magnified sweetness and silent, unvoiced yearnings, prompting a re-engagement with the ostensibly mundane through a lens of enlarged emotional and physical scale.
