MIXMASTER
This was my mother’s Mixmaster. She was given it as a bridal shower gift in 1958. It was used to make simple chocolate cakes or the highly coveted Hungarian Diaz Torte (Walnut Cake). My grandmother used to make the Diaz Torte more than my mom. We had it only twice a year. We would gorge ourselves on it for we knew it would not last long. Other family members would delve into detailed analyses concerning the subtle differences and nuances of the cake and icing from one year to the next. I liked it most when it was bitter. As Mom got older, she used the Mixmaster less and less until she stopped using it altogether. It still works. I baked a cake with it a few years ago, but it didn’t taste the same.
