This reminder never remembered

This was my parents' kitchen reminder, a small item on the refrigerator hanging from a magnet by a string. It was more for decoration than practical use. The pegs on it would often come loose, or my parents would require items that weren't listed, such as sour cream, margarine (as butter was reserved for special occasions or guests), or paprika. Eventually, it ended up in the junk drawer, abandoned and unused. My parents had remarkable memories and relied on lists only sparingly throughout most of their lives until the point when their memory started to fade, and they could no longer recall much of anything
